Information we collect
- Pageview analytics: page path, title, referrer, browser user agent, approximate hashed IP, and anonymous session ID.
- Outbound click analytics: the brand link clicked, referrer, browser user agent, and timestamp.
- Admin account information: GitHub login details used for administrator access.
- Information you voluntarily send us by email or future contact forms.
Why we collect it
- To measure which Canadian brands, categories, and pages are useful to visitors.
- To improve site performance, SEO, and content quality.
- To understand outbound clicks for affiliate and partnership reporting.
- To secure and operate the admin dashboard.
Analytics consent and cookies
First-party analytics and third-party analytics tools only run after you choose “Accept analytics” in the privacy banner. If you reject analytics, we do not send pageview events from your browser. Admin pages are excluded from public analytics. We also respect browser Do Not Track where available.
Strictly necessary cookies or storage may be used for security, authentication, and preserving your privacy preferences. Analytics preferences are stored in your browser’s local storage.
Disclosure and service providers
We use service providers to host and operate Canadazon, including Railway for hosting, Supabase for the database, GitHub for admin login, and optional analytics providers such as Google Analytics and Plausible when configured and consented to. Some providers may process data outside your province or outside Canada.
Quebec Law 25 and cross-border transfers
Canadazon is intended for a pan-Canadian audience, including Quebec residents. We aim to follow privacy by default, publish clear privacy information, maintain a privacy officer contact, and limit analytics until consent is given. We maintain internal records of service providers and cross-border data flows for privacy impact assessment and vendor review purposes.
Retention
Analytics data is retained only as long as needed to understand site performance and business trends. We periodically review retention and may aggregate or delete older event-level data. Privacy/security incident records are retained according to applicable Canadian legal requirements.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may request access to, correction of, portability of, or deletion of your personal information. We will respond to verified requests within the timelines required by applicable Canadian privacy law, generally within 30 days.
